Landon's Story
Landon was two years old when he was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome. Nephrotic syndrome is a kidney disorder that causes your body to pass too much protein in your urine. It is usually caused by damage to the clusters of small blood vessels in your kidneys that filter waste and excess water from your blood. (www.mayoclinic.org). For the first two years, Landon was hospitalized a total of 7 times.
Landon is currently going through a prednisone taper at this time. Prednisone is a steroid, designed to treat inflammation. It is much like cortisol, a hormone naturally made by your adrenal glands. If you take prednisone for more than a few weeks, your adrenal glands decrease cortisol production. A gradual reduction in prednisone dosage gives adrenal glands time to resume their usual function.
Landon is an active 11 year old who loves to play baseball with a travel team near Orlando, Florida. Fluid retention and medication side effects have caused weight fluctuations, which have hindered Landon's ability to play at his maximum ability. Even still, Landon has overcome many of these challenges and was recently awarded an MVP award!
